Days turns into Months

I sit here, staring at my blog and am amazed at how much time has passed since I have posted anything. Sometimes it becomes almost an embarrassment and that makes me stay away even longer. But I have been watching all you ladies that I follow, slipping peeks at all the garments that you have been creating. I still have a white bombshell swimsuit laying across the top of my dress form, much to my youngest daughter’s unhappiness. I was so close to finishing it when I realized that I had sewn the front piece on inside out. It is white I said, both sides are white, you can’t tell but when she tried it on I could tell. One side has a sheen to it, the other is more on the dull side. She didn’t notice but I did. So it sat there, undone, mocking me. Hours turned into days, the summer quietly ticking away until I realized that it was officially fall, the leaves has begun to change colors, a chill is in the air as the morning sun rises. At this point I accept defeat. I shall pack it away, stashed deep in my ‘unfinished’ projects box, thus hiding my shame.

I created nothing for a while after that, I was in such a dark place. I hated that a simple swimsuit defeated me. Depression set in, time passed and the lack of enthusiasm was great. Finally fate delivered a message. It came in the form of a Facebook group. It is about machine embroidery. The creations were amazing, from embroidered towels, appliques on blankets and free standing lace purses. I knew I had found my new muse.

I have never used my Brother Sewing/Embroidery machine at its full capability.  Sure, I have sewn seams, put in zippers, buttonholes and had even stitched a few initials here and there. I see now that this entry level embroidery machine has so much more to offer. Below are a few things I have made.

I made these in a swap for a group. First time appliqueing and much easier than I thought!

Used variegated thread to create initials for my daughter's bathroom.

I have learned to make my own cards as well. Easier than it looks and so much fun!

So there it is! A new creative outlet that brings me back into the hobby that I enjoy so much!  My head has filled with ideas as the holidays approach. What is your creative outlet? Does your change from time to time? Until the next time….

May your needles always be sharp,

Your bobbins always be full

And your stitches always be straight.

My machine is a very low end machine. You can purchase a SE400 (just like mine but without the Project Runway logo and the travel case for just a little over $300 now. The overall cost of sewing machines are astronomical now. My ‘WISH LIST’ sewing machine is over $7000 and I don’t see Santa leaving me one under the tree unless he wins the lottery.

I sure know how it is to take a break from sewing and blogging. I’ve done it many times before! I really love all of your projects! So inventive!!! I hope it brings you back to doing what you love. 🙂

Wow, these look amazing! I am always happy to see your creations, though my own projects are limited to altering my endless pile of thrifted clothes. (:

Depression and perfectionism can eat at one so much. I feel you; but I’m always glad when you post again.

How wonderful to see you pop up in my reader feed again! I’m so sorry that you were feeling so low, but I’m very glad you found something to pull you out of your funk and get back at it (though sometimes we just need to take a break and re-group). Your embroidery pieces are awesome!
